Proponents of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) hold that mankind causes the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) by burning fossil fuels and that without urgent measures to reduce its increase it will cause a runaway temperature increase within a few decades that will have unacceptably severe consequences to mankind. This article addresses the limits of the ability of fossil-fuel consumption to increase atmospheric CO2 level and on its associated temperature increase.
